Katherine J. Wagle, 76, Rock Island, formerly of East Moline, died Friday, July 1, 2005 at Genesis Medical Center - Illini Campus, Silvis. A visitation for family and friends will be held at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline from 5-7 PM Sunday. At Katherine's request her body will be cremated and her cremated body buried at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Memorial Christian Church, Rock Island, where she was a member. Katherine Beale was born July 28, 1928 in East Moline, the daughter of James and Dorothy Marland Beale. She was a 1946 Rock Island High School graduate. She married Charles Smiley, November 17, 1951. She later married Herbert Wagle, April 1, 1978. He died February 17, 2002. She retired from the former Illinois Bell Telephone Company in 1983. She served as a union steward for the CWA and had been a member of the Pioneers (Illinois Bell Retirees). Katherine loved her little dog, Misty. Survivors include her daughter Connie Parker, Barnes City, IA, son Dennis Smiley, Moline, granddaughters Jennifer Ludwig, Geneseo and Darcey Butler, Oskaloosa, IA and four great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Herbert, foster mother Nettie Maxwell, five brothers, 1 sister and a foster sister.
