Kathryn K. Herron, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her residence in Silvis on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the age of 82, after a second battle with breast cancer with her loving family by her side. 

Kathy was born on May 19, 1943, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Robert Ballard and Lorene Downing. On November 20, 1971, she married the love of her life, Duane Herron, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Moline. Together, they cherished a life filled with love, laughter, and countless memories until Duane's passing in 2023, after 51 years of marriage. 

A devoted daycare provider, Kathy poured her heart into nurturing countless children in her care, for over 40 years, making a lasting impression on their lives. She found joy in simple pleasures, whether it was bowling, baking, or tending to her vibrant garden. A passionate sports fan, Kathryn cheered for her beloved University of Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, and Chicago Bears with enthusiasm and pride. 

Above all else, Kathy cherished her family. She took immense joy in spending time with her children and grandchildren, attending their activities, and being an unwavering support in their lives. Her legacy of love will continue to shine through her 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, who will carry her spirit in their hearts. She was an avid listener who gave the best advice.

 Kathy is survived by her children: Dale Herron (Ted Yanecek) of Austin, TX, Julie (Jeff) Christner of Princeton, IA, Jennifer (Josh) Wells of Moline, and Keri (Chris) DeCock of East Moline; her brothers, Robert (Carol) Ballard and John Downing; as well as many other loving family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Duane Herron; her daughter Christine (Steve) Aaseby; her grandson Eric Aaseby; her brother Dennis Downing; and her parents, Robert Ballard and Lorene Downing. 

A funeral service to celebrate Kathy's life will take place on Friday, May 15, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Lutheran Church in East Moline. Visitation will be held the evening prior, on Thursday, May 14, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Van Hoe Funeral Home in East Moline. Memorials may be made to Kathy's family.
