Dr. Kenneth William Stiegel, 84, East Moline, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Genesis Illini, Silvis. Funeral services are 10 AM Tuesday at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Rock Island. Burial is in Riverside Cemetery, Moline, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct military honors. Visitation is 3-6 PM Monday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a Trisagion service will be read at 6PM. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, where he was an active member.

Ken was born on January 18, 1933 in Moline, the son of Helen and Leonard Stiegel. He attended Moline Schools and graduated at Mid Semester from Moline High School. Ken attended Graceland College in Lamoni, IA. While there, he was a member of the Graceland College basketball team earning Hall of Fame honors from the college. He attended the Ohio State University where he was a member of the basketball team until he was drafted into the US Army and stationed in France. On his return he attended and graduated from Augustana College majoring in pre-dentistry. He graduated from the University of Illinois Dental School Chicago in 1963 and set up practice in East Moline.

He served as president and secretary of the Rock Island Dental Society having attained Lifetime membership. He founded and nurtured, along with Dr. Harold Perlmutter, the Academic Achievement Award Program for the youth of Rock Island County. He was an active Volunteer to the Illinois Quad City Chamber of Commerce, serving as President of the Upper Rock Island Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the University of Illinois Arrow Club. He was a member of Psi Omega Dental Fraternity. Ken also served as a member of the Alumni Association of Augustana College. He was a recipient of the "Golden Deeds" award from the Exchange Club.

Ken married Helen Jannes on August 23, 1959 in Rock Island. They had Eric William Stiegel and Andrea Lynn Jacobs. Eric and his wife Nancy and Andrea and J.P., blessed their parents with five wonderful grandchildren, Sydney Ellen and Regan Elizabeth Stiegel, and Nikolas James, Aleksander James and Anastasia Olivia Jacobs.

Ken is survived by his wife Helen, two children and five grandchildren.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Dr. Donovan Stiegel.
