Larry Garren, 64, Moline, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Genesis Medical Center-Illini Campus, Silvis. A memorial gathering will be held from 4-7 PM Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Graveside services are 10 AM Friday at Rock Island National Cemetery, where the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 299 will conduct military honors. Those wishing to attend should arrive at the funeral home by 9:30 AM Friday. Larry was born December 16, 1950 in Decatur, IL, the son of Harry and Laura Price Garren. He married Joyce Abbott on September 22, 1994 in Rock Island. Larry retired as an inspector after 39 years with Alcoa, Bettendorf. He served as an MP in the US Army. Larry loved the game of golf. He had been a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Survivors include his wife, Joyce; children, Sandi (Bobby) Wittenauer, Geneseo, Jody (Lee) Cole, Moline, Danny (Korey) Garren, Lake Charles, LA, Patty (Andrew) Stevens, Davenport, Mylinda Powell, Geneseo and Amanda Smith, Cottage Hills, IL; 13 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren with one on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 grandchildren; and 6 siblings. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the family.
