Funeral services for Larry Lee Greer, 85, of East Moline, IL, will be 11:00 AM Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Christ United Methodist Church, East Moline. Visitation will be 4–7 PM Friday, August 22, 2025, at the Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Larry passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA.
Larry was born March 5, 1940, in Aledo, IL, the son of Howard and Virginia Craddock Greer. He married Fern Anderson on August 13, 1960, in Aledo.
Larry graduated from Aledo High School and Monmouth College and earned his master's degree in counseling from Western Illinois University. He was dedicated to serving his community. He was a longtime member of Christ United Methodist Church, where he sang in The Called, and contributed to church life in many ways. He was a charter member of the East Moline-Silvis Exchange Club, served on the board of the Robert Young Center, was a leader and council member in the Boy Scouts, coached Little League baseball, and was named East Moline Citizen of the Year for his community service.
Professionally, Larry was a teacher, counselor, and coach at United Township High School for 37 years. While at UT, he helped establish the Snowball and Natural Helpers programs and led local support groups for families of individuals with attention deficit disorder.
Larry was known for his steady leadership, mentorship, and support for generations of students. He will be remembered by family and friends for his loyalty, humor, and quick wit.
Survivors include his wife, Fern Greer; daughter, Teri (Marty) Coe, East Moline; son, Jeff (Denise) Greer, Rock Island; grandchildren, Tracy (Chris) Anderson, Becky (Ren) Epperly, and Garrett Greer; six great-grandchildren; siblings, his twin, Jerry (Judy) Greer, East Moline, Judy Glenn, Bettendorf, and Joanne (Jim) Stipp, Port Washington, New York; sisters-in-law, Jane Masters and Elaine Anderson; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Linda Berglund Parr; brothers-in-law, James A. Anderson, Don Masters, and Bob Glenn.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the Greer Family Scholarship at United Township High School or Christ United Methodist Church.
