Obituary

Funeral services for Larry E. Shumaker, 69, Coal Valley, are 1PM Friday at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Coal Valley; burial is in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8PM Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 3:30PM. A memorial fund has been established. Larry died Monday, November 17, 2008 at Trinity at Terrace Park, Bettendorf. Larry was born August 29, 1939 in Moline, the son of Luther R. and Mary F. (Bartosik) Shumaker. He graduated from Alleman High School in 1957. He married Elizabeth "Betty" (DePoorter) Liedtke on December 24, 1977 in Coal Valley. She died August 14, 2005. Larry retired from Case IH and then at Twin Bridges Distribution. He was a Ham Radio Operator with the call letters K9SEA. He enjoyed Blue Grass music and played the accordion. He had made many friends over the years with his trips to the area Casino Riverboats. Larry served in the Illinois National Guard. Survivors include his children and spouses Teresa Liedtke, Moline, Rick and Shelly Liedtke, Coal Valley, Kurt and Kelly Liedtke, East Moline and Thad and Beth Shumaker, Bettendorf, grandchildren: John David and Sara Zabloudil, Beth and Ben Hahn, Emilee Zabloudil, Michael Zabloudil, Miranda Liedtke, Mariah Liedtke, Myrissa Liedtke, Mackinna Liedtke, Blake Opsal, Danita Opsal and Adilyn Shumaker, and brothers; Ronald of Moline, Donald of Davenport and John of Indianapolis, IN, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Constantinou and Pathway Hospice at Trinity, Terrace Park for their exceptional care.
