Funeral services for Laurence E. "Larry" (Pete) Koontz, 79, of East Moline, IL, will be 10:00 AM Saturday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, IL. Visitation will be 5-7 PM Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Koontz died Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island, IL, after a courageous battle with Myasthenia Gravis. Memorials may be made to the ARC (Association of Retarded Citizens). Mr. Koontz was born February 25, 1927 in Bowdle, SD, the son of Roy and Hattie (Jones) Koontz. He married Norma Anderson April 7, 1951 in Moline, IL. He had worked for the Milwaukee Railroad in his earlier years. Later he worked for John Deere Plow Planter, Moline, IL, retiring in 1982 as a supervisor after 32 years of service. He was a member of the John Deere Retirees Club. In his early years he enjoyed fishing, bowling, picks, and golf. One of his greatest joys was working at his son's store in Minnesota. He was quite a handyman able to fix anything. He was always a hard worker who never complained. He loved his family, especially his grandsons. Survivors include: his wife of 55 years, Norma Koontz of East Moline, IL; daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Joe Pastorek of Silvis, IL, Sharon and Tom McKean of Moline, IL, Christy Koontz of Moline, IL; son, Don Koontz of Woodbury, MN; 3 grandsons; sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Red Brandt of Blakesburg, IA; brother and sister-in-law, Glenn and Juanita Koontz of Ottumwa, IA.
