Laveta M. Hodgerson, a beloved mother, grandmother, and Gigi, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 24, 2026, surrounded by the warmth and love of her family.

Born on March 30, 1935, in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, Laveta was the daughter of Ola and Anna Verikous Lake. She lived in Marceline, Missouri as a child before her family settled in Moline, Illinois when she was in high school, a place she would call home for decades to come.

On January 13, 1957, Laveta married the love of her life, Harry R. Hodgerson, in Moline. Together, they built a beautiful life and shared 56 wonderful years until Harry’s passing on April 12, 2013.

Laveta was a dedicated worker, retiring from the Rock Island Arsenal after nearly 30 years as a payroll clerk.

A woman of deep faith, she attended Heritage Church in Rock Island for the past 20 years.

To Laveta, family was everything. She loved cooking big meals and having big family gatherings around her table. She loved being a Mom, Grandma, and especially a Gigi.

Survivors include her daughter, Connie (Dave) Versluys of Moline, IL; sons, Harry “Buddy” (Marianne) Hodgerson Jr. of Blythewood, SC, Edward (Judy) Hodgerson of St. Croix, USVI, Michael (Kris) Hodgerson of Carbon Cliff, IL, David (Ramona) Hodgerson of Sun City, AZ, Steven Hodgerson of Moline, IL; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren who all loved their Gigi.

Laveta is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Harry Hodgerson; her parents, Ola and Anna Verikous Lake; her daughter-in-law, Carol Hodgerson; her brothers, Charles Lake and James Lake; her sisters, Mary Ann Schmidt, Margaret Hartley, Lillian Grace Dyer, and Nancy Johnson; and her foster brother, Chuck Motsinger.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the compassionate team at Beacon of Hope Hospice—especially Nurse Kyndall, Aide Jenny, and night nurse Amanda. You are true angels on earth, providing extraordinary care and comfort to Laveta and her family.

Funeral services will be 11 am Friday, July 31, 2026, at the Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, IL. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorial contributions may be made to Heritage Church or the American Diabetes Association.
