LaVonee Powell, 73, Hampton, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at her home. Funeral services are 11 AM Monday at Wildwood Baptist Church, East Moline. Visitation is from 10 AM until service time. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, Grandview, IA. Memorials may be made to the Sunday School Program at Wildwood Baptist Church. LaVonee was born on April 8, 1941 in Columbus Junction, IA, the daughter of Harry and Geraldine (Sabin) Thornton. She graduated from North East Missouri State at Kirksville and graduated from DePaul University in Chicago. She married Chester Powell on April 9, 1966 in Davenport. He died on June 5, 2013. LaVonee was a certified Montessori Teacher, and had taught school at Villa Montessori Moline for nearly 40 years. She was a dedicated member of Wildwood Baptist Church and had taught Sunday School. Mrs. Powell enjoyed painting. Survivors include her sisters, Donna (Harry) Dickey, Wapello, IA, Judy (Tom) Wykert, Wapello and Patty (Gary) Verrelli, Rock Island, several nieces and nephews and a brother-in-law Jimmy Powell.
