Funeral services for Lawrence "Larry" H. Harksen, 87, of Moline, IL, will be 1:30 PM Monday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island, IL. Visitation will be 2:00-5:00PM Sunday at the funeral home. Mr Harksen died Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Trinity Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children. Larry was born November 15, 1925 in Durant, IA, the son of Harry and Katherine Griebel Harksen. He was a graduate of DeWitt Public High School Class of 1944. He served in the US Army during WWII in the European Theater of Operations. He married Marian Sutterman February 24, 1968 in Bettendorf, IA. He had owned and operated Larry's Standard Service, DeWitt for many years and retired from Iowa Illinois Riverside Generating Plant, Riverdale, IA in 1990. He was active in the DeWitt Jaycees and the Moline American Legion. He enjoyed playing over 50 slow pitch softball. Survivors include his wife, Marian Harksen, Moline; daughters, Katherine (Dan) Hoeper, Blue Grass, IA, Nancy (Dan) Wilson, Alexander, AR, and Patricia (Carl) Colson Davenport, IA; 5 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Lois Buss, Paso Robles, CA; brother, Wayne (Margaret) Harksen, Follets, IA; several nieces and nephews.
