Lawrence A. "Yogi" Yuknis, 90, East Moline, passed away peacefully at the home of his daughter in Rapids City. Funeral services are 10 AM Monday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Entombment is in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct military honors. Visitation is 2-5 PM Sunday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd, East Moline, with a rosary recited at 1PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Anne Catholic Church to have masses said. Larry was born April 17, 1927 at the former Lutheran Hospital, Moline, the son of Tony and Elza (Meirhaeghe) Yuknis. He graduated from East Moline High School and attended Scott Community College. Monsignor William J. Cleary performed the marriage of Nancy Markeski and Larry in 1951 at St. Annes. She died in 2005. Larry had been a member of the Eagles Club, Moose Club, White House Club, Croation Crest Club, VFW, VFD, VFW Fun club, and Cooties. He was an engineer for the former Rock Island Lines for 28 years and worked for Millard Maintenance and on the grounds crew at Indian Bluff Golf Course. He served in the Pacific Theater in the US Navy during WWII. Larry enjoyed building remote control airplanes the he flew at Scott county Park with the Davenport Radio Control Society. He also flew private airplanes from Barstow Airport. He also enjoyed camping and rollerskating with his family, playing golf and gardening. Survivors include his children, L.A. Tony Yuknis, Silvis, Mark Yuknis, East Moline and Matthew Yuknis, East Moline, and Mary Weed (Michael) Stock, Rapids City, nine grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and siblings, Juliana Buck, CA, Marilyn (Keith) Rogers, TX and Daniel (Francine) Miller, CA, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy, son Matthew, daughter, Margaret "Marge" Dilley, great grandson, Tyler DeValt, and his parents.
