Funeral services for Leander A. "Lee" Gottwalt, 91, of Carbon Cliff, IL, will be 11:00 am Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Colona, IL. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation will be 2-5 pm Sunday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd, East Moline. Mr. Gottwalt died Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at his home. Lee was born January 13, 1928, in Rice, MN, the son of Paul and Ottilia Philippi Gottwalt. He served in the US Army. He married Mae Radford November 26, 1949, in Moline, IL. He was a brick layer and retired from Ken Curry Construction in 1990. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, playing euchre, cribbage, and horseshoes. He was a solid family man who loved his family deeply. He had been very active at St. Patrick Catholic Church over the years. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Mae Gottwalt, Carbon Cliff; children, Lea Ann (Dan) Gomez, Colona, Cynthia (Dave) Strong, West Branch, IA, Paul (Rheta) Gottwalt, East Moline, Mary Beth (Carl) Brandom, Colona, Joe (Cleone) Gottwalt, Iowa City, IA, David Gottwalt, Carbon Cliff; and John (Christine) Gottwalt, Moline; 17 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; sisters, Marie and Eilleen, both of MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandchildren, Justin Gottwalt, Joshua Brandom and Charolette Stebens; and 11 siblings.
