Leona A. Guss, 93, Coal Valley, passed away at 1:55 AM, Thursday, March 4, 2010 at Genesis Medical Center-Illini Campus, Silvis. Funeral services are 10 AM Tuesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is 5-7PM Monday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established. Agnes Christina Leona Ostrand was born on October 28, 1916 in Moline, the daughter of Carl H. and Olga M. (Bjurstrom) Ostrand. She married Robert L. Guss Sr. on July 1, 1935. He died on January 27, 2006. Leona had worked at the Le Claire Grill in Moline, the Augustana College Book Concern, Rock Island and in the Kitchen at the former St. Anthony's Hospital, Rock Island. She enjoyed going to the stock car races to watch her son and grandsons and spending time with her family. Survivors include her children (spouses): Barbara Allen, Coal Valley, Robert (DeAnna) Guss Jr., Moline, Ray (Margaret) Guss, Calhoun, GA, Annette (Earl) Anderson, and Allen (Donna) Guss, Moline, fourteen grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 21 great great grandchildren, a sister Gunhild "Tillie" Sanchez, Ava, MO, sisters-in-law Margaret Ostrand and Patricia Ostrand and several nieces and nephews. Leona is preceded in death by her husband Robert, her son Paul, 2 great-great grandsons a great-great-great grandson and 3 brothers.
