Leonard C. "Norche" VanDeWalle, 90, East Moline, passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at his home. Visitation is 4-6 PM Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Graveside services are 8:30 AM Saturday at St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct military honors.

Leonard was born on December 21, 1931 in Moline, the son of Leonard and Stella (Theuninck) VanDeWalle. He graduated from United Township High School and was attending the University of Iowa on a football scholarship when he joined the US Navy in 1955. He married Shirley Baker on November 24, 1956 in East Moline. She died February 8, 1999. Leonard was a Chicago Cubs, Bears and Iowa Hawkeye fan. He worked out at the YMCA every day until his health would no longer allow him. He enjoyed fishing, boating, walks and most of all going for a ride.

Survivors include his daughter; Sherry (Alan) Spicer, Silvis, her children; Toby (Shelley) Spicer, Hiedi Spicer, Dustin (Tanya) Spicer and Angel (Zak) Knox, their children; Chase, Callista, Libbi, Gracci, Broddy, Cannden, Emmi and Jacci, step-son Terry (Sandy) Browne, East Moline, his sons Bryan and Todd and their extended families.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the East Moline American Legion Post 227 where he had been a member for 50 years.
