Graveside services for LeRoy Carlson, 85, of East Moline, IL, will be 10:00AM Tuesday at St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Mr. Carlson died Friday, June 22, 2012 at his home. Memorials may be made to the family. LeRoy was born October 3, 1926 in Aledo, IL, the son of Helger and Opal (Peterson) Carlson. He served in the US Navy during WWII, serving in the China Sea. He married Darlene Lamb in 1945 in Andover, IL. He owned and operated Carlson Grocery, Cambridge, IL, for over 25 years. He later worked for Knox and ATL Trucking CO. He had been a basketball star during high school. He had been a Boy Scout Leader and coached baseball. He had been a member of the Cambridge American Legion Post 417, where he had been a past commander. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Darlene Carlson, East Moline; son and daughter-in-law, Lee Vern Carlson, Donna TX, and Marcia Carlson Rock Island, IL; grandsons, Mathew Carlson, Rock Island and Luke Carlson Bettendorf, IA; brother, Eugene Carlson, Andover; nephew, Bret (Cheri) Barto, Lancaster, PA; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jay( Jim) Kennedy, Burbank, CA; a great-nephew and great-niece. He is preceded in death by his parents, son, Daryll Carlson, sister-in-law, Olive, Belle Carlson.
