Obituary

Funeral services for Lewis William Wilder, 75, of East Moline, IL, will be 10:00AM Tuesday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Visitation will be 3:00-7:00PM Monday (today) at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 7:00PM. Lew died Saturday, July 17, 2010 at Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport, IA, after an extended illness. He was born January 28, 1935 to Thomas and Hildur (Billows) Wilder in East Moline. After his father passed away when he was two, he would later call Frank Ankney his step-father. He married Carolyn Eechaute on August 30, 1958, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline. He was a graduate of Rock Island High School and served as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, 1st Marine Division during the Korean War from 1953 to 1956. He was an electrician for 45 years and later a contractor, as owner of White Electric Co., Moline, IL. He was a member of IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) Local 145 in Rock Island and NECA (National Electrical Contractors Association) in Davenport. Prior to his retirement in September 1998, he had been employed by Davenport Electric. He was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church in East Moline and in earlier times was an active parishioner, serving as usher, chairing spaghetti supper fund raisers, coaching, serving as scout leader, heading the athletic board and completing all the electrical work during the church's renovation. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, where he organized the basketball tournament for the local Catholic grade schools. Surviving are his wife Carolyn; his children Michael (Anne) Wilder of Arlington Hts., Mark Wilder of Algonquin, Lisa Ornelis of Moline, and Lori (Toby) Walsh of Spring Valley; 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson all whom he dearly loved; sisters Helen Francis of Rock Island, Katie (Leland) Albertson of Rock Island and Jane McWilliams of Rubedoux, CA; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his step-father; his brother Milton; his two sisters Doris and Ruth; 6 other siblings who died as youths; and two grandchildren, Kristina Ornelis and Nathaniel Wilder.
