Lindy Cooper 89, of Silvis, passed away in his home at Illini Towers on Tuesday, November 27th with his wife and caregiver, Barb Cooper, and his niece, Kelli Lawver by his side. His body was taken to Van Hoe Funeral Home where they oversaw the cremation. There will be a memorial service to celebrate his life on January 5 at Illini Towers, 940 Crosstown Ave, Silvis in the community room from 2 – 4pm. Lindy was born on June 1, 1929 in Canton, Illinois to Oral and Ida (Sims) Cooper. He grew up in Trenton, MO where he began his love of country music. He moved to the Quad City area as a young man. In the late 1950s he played guitar and was lead vocal with Paul Moneymaker and The Rainbow Valley Boys, who recorded I'm Tired and Tomorrow I'll Cry. They also appeared on a Quad Cities television show. Lindy had worked at Consumer Redi Mix for many years. He then worked in maintenance for area apartment complexes and in the Dallas Fort Worth area until he retired in 1988. Lindy was an avid musician playing guitar in several bands at local nursing homes, elderly high rises, VFWs and American Legions.. He moved back to Trenton for a few years only to return to the Quad Cities in the early 90's. He married Barb Stroupe in 2004. In 2017 he was given the Life Long Efforts in Country Music Award from the Mississippi Valley Country Western Music Association. Survivors include his wife Barb, sons Robert, Ron and Bill Cooper, daughters Linda Rogers and Gloria Cooper. He had several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Gary, grandson Gary Robert and sisters Wilma Dzekunskas, Maxine Daniels, Jean LaFerrara and Patricia Herkert.
