Funeral services for Lola F. Guss, 57, Moline, are 10 AM Saturday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Pastor Rick Bevans will officiate. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 5-8 PM Friday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established. Mrs. Guss died Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. Lola Johnson was born November 4, 1947 in Moline, the daughter of Wallace and Mabel (Simler) Johnson. She married Paul Guss Sr., January 18, 1964 in Moline. Lola was a devoted member of Central Baptist Church, Moline. Being a grandmother and great-grandmother was a pinnacle of her life. She loved working in her yard and had just completed a rock garden in memory of her best friend and soul mate, Paul Sr. who died June 7, 2003. Lola was a good friend and always had a shoulder to lean on, even through her trying time, she always had a smile to lend. In 2003, she won her long battle with cancer. Survivors include her children and spouses Donna and John Huys, and Paul and Melissa Guss Jr., Moline, grandchildren Christina, Matthew, Nicole and Michael, great grandsons Joshua, David and Jacob and a sister Darlene Black, East Moline. Her husband, grandson Paul Guss III, parents, a sister and a brother precede her in death.
