Lola Mae "Jackie" Roden, 84, of East Moline, IL, died Thursday, July 24, 2014, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline, surrounded by her family and friends. A memorial gathering will be from 11:00 AM until 1:30PM Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, with a service to be held at 2PM. Committal services will be 9:30 AM Monday, August 4 at Rock Island National Cemetery, anyone wishing to attend should meet at the funeral home by 9 AM. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to Hope Creek or to the family. Jackie was born on October 20, 1929 in Moline, the daughter of William and Louella (Krauel) Newmarch. She married Robert Dyer in 1949. She later married Fred Roden on April 28, 1968. He died December 25, 1997. Jackie retired in 1995 after 29 years with Eagle Food Center, Milan. She had been a member of First Christian Church, Moline. Lola Mae "Jackie" Roden was sassy, flashy and never knew a stranger. You could routinely find her seated at her staple red desk writing letters to friends, family and probably someone she just met who needed to receive some love in the mail. She barely missed a holiday when she would slip a dollar bill into a card to mail to her many eagerly awaiting grandchildren, be they blood relation or not. She made a modest house feel like a majestic museum and was an admirer of all things beautiful and unique. Among her myriad of decorations you would find things that reflected her talents beyond her gift of gab; such as her meticulously painted ceramic pieces. You could also find crocheted grannie squares piled on a coffee table waiting to be sewn together and quite possibly mailed to a lonely, broken inmate. She could turn a pea into a casserole and often did just that. She made the best homemade pancakes on the planet, and her recipe will be shared for generations to come. Few could keep up with her. This was especially true when she purchased her first new car, a Ford Probe that she so fondly referred to as her, "Silver Bullet!" Mario Andretti would have had his work cut out for him in a race with her! She was known for her fashion flare and was often adorned from head to toe with jewels, beads and anything shiny. However, you might have found her in the backyard smashing black grapes between her toes in an ole fashioned wash tub to make jelly for some lucky recipients. She may have also been seen wearing clothing with large pockets to accommodate a few garter snakes needing to be housed until a mischievous child would return to retrieve them. Most of all, she will be remembered for her unconditional love and servants heart. She was a faithful child of her God and spread His word throughout her life to all that would listen and even some that wouldn't. Although she had the raspy voice of a worn out musician, she would still belt out church hymns as if The Lord were standing right before her. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all who received the blessing of knowing her. She has been reunited in heaven with her husband Fred, sons Robert Dyer and David Roden sisters, Midgie Price and Emma Collins, her parents and several special uncles. Those to carry on her legacies and cherished memories are her children, Teddi Krebill, Rock Island, Linda Williams, Rock Island, Anne (Bob) Larrison, Silvis, Fred Roden Jr., and Omega Roden, Carbon Cliff, 15 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and a great-great grandson, brothers, Roy (Nancy) Wilson, Kansas City, KS, Terry Wilson (Margaret Allen), Durant, OK and Daniel Wilson, Warsaw, MO., and her many "adopted children" who called her Aunt Jackie, Mrs. D or Mom. A special thank you to the staff of Hope Creek, Hospice Compasses, and Van Hoe's for all their loving care.
