Obituary

Funeral services for Louis H. Belman, 91, of Silvis, IL, will be 11:00 AM Wednesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline, IL. Visitation will be 2:00-7:00PM Tuesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 6:30PM. Visitation will also be from 9:00-10:00AM Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Belman died Sunday, June 21, 2009 at his home. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the family or Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Mr. Belman was born in Leon, GTO, Mexico on October 8, 1917, the son of Ynes and Luisa (Hernandez Morales) Belman. He married Erlinda Valle on July 27, 1941 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Silvis. He served in the US Army during WWII. He was employed for a short time at the Rock Island Railroad before he began his employment with John Deere where he worked for 42 years, retiring in 1982. He still enjoyed gardening, and previous hobbies included bowling and golfing. He had played on the Los Azteca's Baseball Team, and was an avid Chicago Cub's fan. He played guitar and sang with the original Los Amigos Band. He had been a lifetime member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Erlinda Belman of Silvis; his children and their spouses, Cecelia Belman of Silvis, Rose Ann and Francisco Pena of Silvis, Lindy Foley of Davenport, IA, Karen and Carlos Martel of Albuquerque, NM, Teresa and Jim Pierce of Cordova, IL, Sharon and Roger Remour of Hillsdale, IL, Audrey and Jay Ross of Aurora, IL, Felicia and Gary Carlson of Lynn Center, IL, Richard Belman of CA, Arthur and Vickie Belman of East Moline, IL, and Michael Belman of Silvis, IL; 28 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; his sister and brother-in-law, Esther and Don Perez of Moline; brother, David Belman of Dixon, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Louis Belman Jr., sisters, Lucy Contreras and Sophie Welshons, brothers, Julian and Jesse.
