Loyd C. Powell, 85, Geneseo, formerly of Colona, died Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at Hammond Henry Hospital, Geneseo. Funeral services are 10 AM Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation is 4-7 PM Thursday (Today) at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Green River United Methodist Church where he was a member, or to the Colona Lion's Club. Loyd was born October 29, 1928 in Macomb, IL, the son of Clarence and Hazel (Wright) Powell. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He married Dorothy Soulis on September 29, 1954 at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, East Moline. Dorothy died in 2000. He retired in 1985 as a hardware expediter from John Deere Harvester Works, East Moline. He was a member of the Color Guard at the Geneseo American Legion, the Geneseo Moose, and past treasurer of the Lion's Club. He enjoyed volunteering his time to charitable causes. Loyd was thrilled when he was able to make the Honor Flight in 2013. Survivors include his children Christine (Craig) Denys, Coal Valley, IL, Diana (Delvin) Shepard, Colona and Ronald (Lois) Powell, Loveland, CO, grandchildren, Shauna, Michelle, Christy and Byron, great grandchildren, Gabby, Caleb, Carter, Emma and Austin and his brother Ronald (Marge) Powell, Poland Springs, Maine. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Ralph.
