Lucille J. Coopman passed away Tuesday, July 11th 2023 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf Iowa. Funeral services will be at Our Lady Guadalupe Church, Silvis at 10:00am on Monday, July 17th 2023. Van Hoe Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be from 2-4pm on Sunday, July 16th 2023 at the funeral home, where a rosary will be recited at 1:00pm. Interment will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal.
Lucille was the daughter of John and Julia Larson. She was born on a farm outside of Waterville, Iowa on September 23rd 1928. In 1936 she moved with her family to the Silvis area. She graduated from UTHS, East Moline and from Black Hawk College with an Associate Degree in Liberal Studies. She married Eugene W. Coopman on June 25, 1949 at Sacred Heart Church, Moline. Together they ran Coopman's Grocery Store on Airport Road, Milan for several years.
Lucille had been a Girl Scout Leader and President of Mound View PTA. She was a past President of Professional Secretaries International, Rock River Chapter. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church for over 50 years, the Woman's Group of the church, Genesis Illini Hospital Auxiliary and Deere Women Retirees.
She had worked at the John Deere Sales Branch, John Deere Harvester Works, and retired from World Headquarters of Deere & Company as Administrative Secretary in 1982. She had her own business, Lazilu Secretarial and Computer Services for several years. After closing her business she worked in many offices throughout the Quad Cities on a temporary basis. She was also a Secretary for the First Baptist Church in Rock Island for ten years from October 2002 to her retirement in December 2012.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, in her earlier years she enjoyed attending her grandchildren's sporting events and playing golf and playing cards. Her greatest joy was to see her darling great granddaughter, Stella Marie. She traveled extensively throughout Europe and the United States. She visited her parent's home in Sweden and her husband's relatives in Belgium, St. Andrews Golf Course in Scotland, Waterford Crystal Factory in Ireland, Monet's Garden in France, London, Rome and the Vatican.
She is survived by daughters, Nancy (Mike) Neumann, Rock Island, Mary Lenart, Silvis, daughter-in-law Teresa Coopman, East Moline, grandson, Jason Fox, granddaughters Kristine (Steve) Coulston, Ashlee Neumann, Jessica Saelens, and great granddaughter Stella Marie Coulston.
She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter, Julie Coopman, son, Gary Coopman, grandsons Michael Coopman and Christopher Saelens. Also, by her three brothers, John, Vernon and Carl Larson and her sister Helen Morris.
Memorials may be made to the family or Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.
