Obituary

Lucio Acosta Galvan, 72, of East Moline, IL, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loved ones.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 28th, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Moline, where he was a member. Burial will follow at the St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Moline. A Rosary will be recited at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 27th, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, with visitation following from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Lucio was born December 17, 1953, in San Jose de los Marquez, Mexico, to Severo and Leonor (Galvan) Acosta. The family moved to Toluca, MX when he was a child.

You would find him walking or taking long bike rides with his compadre, Alfonso, in his free time. He also enjoyed playing and spending quality time with his grandkids. He loved the sport of soccer - playing and watching it.

Lucio was employed as an assembler at John Deere Davenport Works, from which he retired following 30 years of service. He thoroughly enjoyed his retired years in Huejucar, Jalisco during the winter months.

Surviving are his wife, Maria de la Luz, of East Moline; his children, Lucio Acosta, Jr., Moline, Javier (Laura) Acosta, East Moline, Susy (Quincy) Hughes, Silvis, Arturo (Elizabeth) Acosta, Orlando, FL; grandchildren, Javier Jr., Fernando, Alexia, Lucio III, Adrian, Davian, Isabella, Jocelyn, Fabian, Leonardo, and Maximiliano; her children and their families, Mirna, Pascual and Jorge Daniel Morales; brothers, Antonio, Mariano, Rodolfo, Hipolito, Alfredo, Abel, Celestino, Jesus, Santiago and Leonel Acosta; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and their families.

Lucio is preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Andres Acosta.
