Obituary

Lupe D. Cruz, 83, Silvis, died Monday, September 1, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his family. Funeral services are 10 AM Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis. Burial wll be in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Visitation is 3-7 PM Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 2:30 PM. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church or to the Alzheimer's Association. Lupe was born on May 8, 1931 in Moline, the son of Carlos and Irene (Solis) Cruz. He married Beatrice Valle on September 23, 1950 in Silvis. Lupe retired from John Deere Parts and Distribution Warehouse, Milan in 1987 after 37 years with the company. He also worked 27 years at Anchor Lumber, Silvis. Mr. Cruz loved working and had an incredible work ethic. He was a Chicago Bear fan and New York Yankee fan. He had been a member of the Blessed Fr. Pro Men's Club at Our Lady of Guadalupe. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Bea, children, James (Pat) Cruz, Graham, WA, Cathleen Fenton, Swansea, IL, Theodore Cruz, Geneseo, Thomas (Linda) Cruz, East Moline, Cynthia Swanson, Silvis, and Cheryl (Darrell) Priebe, Silvis, 16 grandchildren 16 great grandchildren with two more on the way, and siblings, Maria Lara, Fort Worth, TX, Jess (Theresa) Cruz, East Moine, John (Mary) Cruz, Moline and Charles (Ramona) Cruz, Silvis. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Manuel and son-in-law, Kevin Swanson.
