Funeral services for Lyle E. "Spike" Gorzney, 90, of East Moline, IL, will be 10:00AM Tuesday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00PM Monday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 7:00PM. Mr. Gorzney died Thursday, July 30, 2009 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport, IA. Memorials may be made to St. Anne Catholic Church or the American Heart Association. Lyle was born September 1, 1918 in Clinton, IA, the son of Stanislaus and Mabel (Hickey) Gorzney. He married Estaleane "Esty" Adamson July 20, 1946. She died July 8, 1977. He had served in the US Army 11th Airborne during WWII, being stationed in the Southwest Pacific Region where he received a Bronze Medal. He retired from the Arsenal where he had been a machinist. He enjoyed golfing and watching sports on television. He had been a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Ron Immesoete of Bettendorf, IA; sons and daughter-in-law, Stan and Becky Gorzney of Moline, IL, Kevin Gorzney of Moline; 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, brothers and sister-in-law, Howard Gorzney of Silvis , Robert and Doris Gorzney of Silvis. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, sisters, Muriel and Alice, brothers, Orville and Herbert. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the ICU Unit and Fifth Floor Surgical at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus for their outstanding care.
