Funeral services for Lyman A. Bitting, 83, of Moline, IL, will be 10:00 AM Saturday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL. Burial will be in Moline Memorial Park Cemetery, Moline, IL. Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 PM Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Bitting died Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Rosewood Care Center, Moline. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the American Lung Association or Genesis Hospice. Lyman was born January 14, 1928 in Kewanee, IL, one of eight children to Paris and Marjorie Swearingen Bitting. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He married Naida Olson June 4, 1950 in Kewanee, IL. She died January 23, 2002. In his earlier years, Lyman had been an Independent Insurance Salesman. In 1974 he went to work for Sexton Ford, Moline, retiring in 2000. He had been a loving family man, who had a beautiful life and doted on his grandchildren. Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Josh Levenson of Marina del Rey, CA; sons and daughters-in-law, Stuart and Carol Bitting of Franklin, TN, Scott and Rebecca Bitting of East Moline, IL; grandchildren, Nicholas (Tegan) Bitting, Lauren (Danny) Gill, Sarah Bitting, Ryan Bitting, Hannah Levenson, Joseph Levenson , Adam Bitting, Kristin Bitting, and Jason Bitting; sister, Marian Wall of Kewanee. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, his son, Steven, and his siblings. The family would like to thanks Genesis Hospice and the staff at Rosewood for their excellent care.
