M. Jean Combs, 93, formerly of Moline, died Sunday, September 13, 2015 at Hope Creek, East Moline. Funeral services are 1PM Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is 4-7PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Mildred Jean was born May 8, 1922 in Sciota, IL, the daughter of John F. and Gladys E (Smith) Oleson. She grew up on a farm near Blandinsville, IL. She graduated from Fountain Green (IL) High School. She married Chester Combs on August 24, 1944. He died November 20, 2003. Jean worked at Birlington's Iowa Ordinance Plant and Vultee Aircraft in Tucson, AZ, where she was proud to be a "Rosie the Riveter" during WWII. She had worked at Fresh Pak Candy and Brach's Candy. She loved to sew and especially loved making quilts for the new babies in the family. Jean was an inspiration to her entire family. She was a good Christian woman, who always took her children to Sunday School and Church. She attended the former Moline Gospel Temple for many years and was currently a member at Cornerstone Christian Fellowship, Moline. Jean was always big into recycling (ahead of her time). She will be missed by all who loved and cared for her. Survivors include her children, Janet (Perry) Kane, Bettendorf, Gary (Sherry) Combs, Carbon Cliff, and Linda (Gary)Senn, East Moline, six grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 15 great-great grandchildren and a niece Bobbi (Barney) Woody. In addition to her husband, Jean was preceded in death by her brother Robert F. Oleson her parents and an infant son, Kent C. Combs. A special thank you to all the people at Hope Creek who cared for Jean. They are a special group of people who loved her with their whole hearts and showed it.
