Funeral services for Madeline E. Bender, 84, Port Byron, are 9AM Wednesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Rapids City, burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is 4-7PM Tuesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 4PM, and 1 hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be made to the church. Madeline Poelvoorde was born July 14, 1923 in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, the daughter of Amos and Frances (Terhall) Poelvoorde. She was a graduate of Moline High School and had worked at the Plow Credit Union and the New York Store. She married Wilbur Bender on September 22, 1941 in Kahoka, MO. Madeline was an incredible pie baker and seamstress, was an avid reader and enjoyed playing bingo. Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Wilbur, children and spouses Michael and Suzanne Bender, East Moline, Kathleen and Craig Coldiron, Ballwin, MO, and Laura and Robert Foust, Rock Island, grandchildren; Dawn Richlen, Gregory Bender, Paul Bender, Penny Lafferiere, Matthew Clark, Megan Cirone, Emily Foust and Erin Foust and seven great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers Arthur and Amos Jr.
