Marcus J. Whitney, 80, Silvis, passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at his home. Funeral services are 10 AM Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct Military Honors. Visitation is 4-6PM Tuesday at the funeral home, where a Masonic Service will be held at 6PM. Memorials may be made to Alternatives for Older Adults. Mark was born April 29, 1937 in Moline, the son of Earl and Margaret (Bahmler) Whitney. He married Sharon Booth in 1965 and together they had 2 daughters. He married Linda Donaldson Barr in 1991 in Silvis. He worked with his father and later with Farm Services. He retired in the early 1990's as a material handler from John Deere Harvester Works, East Moline. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, enjoyed everything Harley Davidson and playing LRC. Survivors include his wife Linda, daughters, Dawn (Rob) Anderson, Moline, and Brenda (Tim) Skaggs, New Braunfels, TX, stepchildren, Aaron Barr (Kristy Bates) and Molly Barr, both of Silvis, eight grandchildren and siblings, Richard (Eileen) Whitney, East Moline, Marcia Bradley, Davenport, David (Brenda) Whitney, Silvis and Mary Kay Joyce, Hillsboro, MO, and his dog, Lula.
