Margaret J. Avitt, 83, Carbon Cliff, passed away on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Funeral services are 11 AM Tuesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Services will also be live-streamed by logging into http://www.facebook.com/vanhoefuneralhome. Visitation is from 10 AM until service time. Private family committal will be held at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to Clarissa Cook Hospice.
Margaret was born on January 30, 1938 in Moline, the daughter of Samuel and Frances (Gray) Harrelson. She married Fred Avitt on June 18, 1955 in Galesburg. He died December 11, 2010. She worked at the former Colona Avenue Bank and retired in 2003 from Metrobank after 37 years in banking. Margaret was a member of First Christian Church, East Moline. She had a great passion for sewing and quilt making. She was a member of the Project Linus, Quilting Club of Geneseo and the Illinois Extension. Margaret was an amazing baker of pies and an excellent cook. She enjoyed frequent gatherings with her classmates and co-workers.
Survivors include her children; Linda (Steve) Bridgeford, East Moline, Doreen (Lyle) Talbot, Brighton, CO, Kimberly (Joe) Duran, Silvis and Michael (Rosie) Avitt, Panama City Beach, FL, six grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and siblings, Samuel T. (Jeannie) Harrelson Jr., Colorado Springs, CO and Sandra Osborne, Westmont, IL.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her mother, father and step "mother" Betty.
