Margaret M. Churuvia, 94, East Moline, passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Genesis Illini, Silvis. Funeral services are 11 AM Thursday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum. Visitation is from 10 AM until service time. Memorials may be made to Christ the King Church, where she was a member or to the Illini Hospital Foundation. Margaret Van Meighem was born on May 22, 1922 the daughter of Alphonse and Irma (Hulstraet) Van Meighem. She married Michael Churuvia on June 1, 1946 at St. Mary's Church, East Moline. She had been a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and their Altar Society. She was a volunteer with Illini Hospital and a lifetime member of the Illini Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of the Gunderson Foundation of La Crosse, Wisconsin. Mrs. Churuvia owned Margaret's Beauty Shop for 17 years. Later, she and her husband Michael owned Churuvia Florist for 25 years. She was honored as the American Business Woman of the Year in 1964. She loved playing her organ and electric piano. She also enjoyed playing cards and being around flowers. She is survived by her nephews, Jerry (Joyce) Van Meighem and Larry (Eydie) Van Meighem and their families, and special friends, Bob Fluegel, Marge and George Collins and Mary Ann and Rod Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Louis Van Meighem, sister, Dorothy Anderson and niece Barbara Westemeyer.
