Obituary

Marie L. Miller , 96, of Moline Illinois passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at her home in Overlook Village, Moline.

Marie was born April 29, 1928, in East Moline, Illinois, to Urbain and Madeline Lannoo DeSmet. Marie and George J. Miller were united in marriage on April 17, 1951, in the rectory at St. Mary's Church, Moline, only a few weeks after meeting. Their love story was one that was unending, with each rarely leaving each other's side for the entirety of their 72 years of marriage.  He preceded her in death on June 21, 2023. Both George and Marie were members of Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline.

Marie was a registered nurse at Illini Hospital in Silvis for many years.

Marie and George traveled extensively during their marriage. They vacationed in many states in the U.S and countries abroad, including: Ireland, Wales, England, Scotland, New Zealand, Australia, and Hawaii. These trips captured their hearts and kept them in touch with family. In July 1992, Marie and George took the entire family on a Caribbean cruise, memories of which continue to make everyone in the family laugh.  Marie loved to dance with George, play cards, and write poetry. As a mom, she enjoyed supporting her children's activities and was always their number one fan. She will be lovingly remembered as a devoted, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Marie is survived by her daughters, Debra Miller, Davenport, Iowa, and Barbara Metzger (Dave), Raleigh, North Carolina; son Robert Miller (Jayle), Box Elder, South Dakota; and sister-in-law Margaret Miller, Christchurch, New Zealand; grandchildren, Barrett Miller (Ashley), Seattle, Washington, Jamie Miller, Davenport, Stephanie Witt (Carter Nicholson), Mahomet, Illinois, Alison Schluenz (Matt) Bettendorf, Marc Miller (Tiffani) Tucson, Arizona, Chelsea Donovan, Raleigh, North Carolina, Chad Metzger (Allaina) Raleigh, North Carolina, Carin Hall (Josh) Greensboro, North Carolina; great grandchildren, Madeline Witt, Alyssa Witt, Brayden Miller (Samantha), Savannah Skinner (Justin), Kayden Rodriguez, Finley Schluenz, Soren and Marlowe Miller, Welden, Brady, and Lenny Metzger, Jackson, Bridger, and Reese Hall; great-great grandsons, Greyson Skinner and Bennett Skinner; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George; son, Richard; parents, Urbain and Madeline; and twin sisters in infancy.

Our mother is a treasure that we'll carry in our hearts. We will miss the many things she was, the special things she did. Our hearts are broken, but the memories will last forever.

The family wishes to express their sincere and heartfelt gratitude to the Overlook Village staff for their love and extraordinary care of our mother. Thank you as well to the nurses at Compassus Healthcare.
