Funeral services for Marion "Pete" Darnell, 69, of East Moline, IL, will be 10:00 AM Wednesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island, IL. Visitation will be 4-7 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Darnell died Saturday, October 21, 2006 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport, IA. Memorials may be made to the family. Pete was born September 14, 1937 in Ullin, IL, the son of William and Jessie Marie (Brachen) Darnell. He married Betty J. Alsip February 23, 1957 in Anna, IL. He had served in the US Navy. He retired from ALCOA, Davenport, IA, after nearly 30 years of service. Pete was very artistic. He made beautiful lamps and jewelry. He enjoyed birds and breeding canaries. He and his wife had a cabin on the river where they enjoyed fishing and fish fry's with family and friends. Pete loved his family who thought he was the best husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather in the world. Survivors include: his wife of almost 50 years, Betty Darnell of East Moline, IL; daughters and son-in-law, Debora and Marilyn Munn Jr. of Alpha, IL, Alison Darnell of Silvis, IL; grandchildren, Amanda Glaser, Jessie Marie Munn, Angella Whalen, Heidi Haessler, Matthew Munn, and Christian Munn; great grandchildren, Bayleigh and Khelben; 11 step great grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Delores and Kenneth Collier of Paduka, KY; brother, Charles Darnell of Texas; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and 4 brothers.
