Obituary

Marion E. Lance 97, Of Coal Valley, Illinois passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his residence on Friday, February 11, 2022.

Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Funeral services are 11 AM Friday at Christ United Methodist Church, East Moline.  Services will be live streamed at http://www.facebook.com/vanhoefuneralhome.

Burial will follow at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, where the Moline American Legion will provide Military Honors.

Marion E. Lance was born September 15, 1924, son of Robert & Lena (Danner) Lance in Industry, Illinois, moved to Wapello, Iowa as a child and later moved to Moline, Illinois, where he was a resident for over 80 years.

Married Patricia Pierce, later divorced and had one child, Patricia Victoria "Vicky" Miller (deceased). Married Barbara Abrams Grafton in 1949 who had a daughter Sherilyn Grafton and they had two children together, Janet (Lance) Knappen (deceased 2008), David M. Lance (wife Bridgett). His wife Barbara passed away after 51 years of marriage in 2000.

Marion Lance had various jobs in the shops in Moline, General Contractor and retired from the Rock Island Arsenal after 32 years employment.

Marion Lance was a member of the First Christian Church, Moline for over 50 years until its closing in 2018. He joined the Christ United Methodist Church, Moline, Illinois June 2, 2019. Marion was a member of the American Legion, Moose Club, Landlords and Mississippi Valley County Western Music Association, Past member of the Elks Club, Viking Club of Moline and Svithiod Club of Moline. Enjoy playing Euchre for many years in Moline and Geneseo.

Survivors include son David (Bridgett) Lance, Moline, Illinois, Step Daughter Sherilyn (Robert) Matthews, Northport, Florida, Grand Children: Joseph (Denise) Wright, Montgomery, Texas, Tiffany Wright, Arlington, Texas, Seth Knappen, Cathedral City, CA, Megan (Andrea) Romero, Davey Lance, both from Moline, Illinois Great Grand Children: Brandon (Kati) Wright, Amanda Wright, both from Montgomery, Texas, Maya Wright, Arlington, Texas and Mateo Romero, Moline, Illinois. Great Great Grandchildren Barett Wright and Bowie Wright both from Montgomery, Texas. Grand Children from his daughter, Vicky Miller (deceased), Christine Miller, Joseph Miller and Scott Miller (deceased), and survived by 14 Great Grand children, 8-Great Grand Children. Sister in laws, Nola Lance and Beverly Jean Lance, several nieces and nephews and loving friend and care taker Vera M. Minati.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Barbara, brothers Richard Stanley Lance, Donald Dean Lance, sisters Marge (Donald) Kozelski and Lila (Willis) Joiner, daughters Patricia "Vicky" Miller, Janet Knappen, grandsons Scott Miller and Josh Knappen. Memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, East Moline or the Moline Legion Honor Guard.
