Obituary

Marselino Chavez, 84, East Moline, passed away on Monday, January 2, 2017 at Genesis-Illini, Silvis. Funeral services are 10 AM Monday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Visitation is 4-8 Sunday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd,. East Moline, with a time of sharing and reflection at 7:30 PM. Memorials may be made to the family. Marselino was born on June 2, 1932 in Topeka, KS, the son of Jose and Eulalia (Vasquez) Chavez. He married Lenore Montez on April 23, 1966 in East Moline. He retired as a machinist from HC Duke & Son. He then worked at Illini Hospital Pharmacy. He enjoyed watching westerns, exercising, and fishing. Playing golf with his friends, Byron Robinson and Bud Ward was always a favorite. Survivors include his children, Angelica Chavez (Randy Morris), Bolingbrook, IL, Dominic Chavez (Heather Hopkins) East Moline, Robert (Roma) Chavez, Burlington, Rachel (Tim) Ford, Dubuque, and Danielle Chavez (Tim Bowman), Davenport, ten grandchildren, siblings, Lola Adame, John Chavez and Tony Chavez all of Topeka, special friend, Carol Carbo, and a large extended family. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by grandson Kyvan Chavez siblings, Grace Ortega, Joe Chavez and Manuel Chavez, and his special aunt Jessie Sierra. A special thank you to Danielle Chavez, Heather Hopkins and Nikki Grumadas for their exceptional care of Marselino over the past year.
