Martha VanTieghem, 97, Silvis, died on the eve of her 98th birthday at Genesis Medical Center-Illini Campus, Silvis. Funeral services are 11AM Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis. Private family entombment will be held at St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline at a later date. As per Martha's request, there will be no visitation. Her family will have a rosary on thursday evening at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, where she was a member, Multiple Sclerosis Association or to St. Jude's. Martha L. DeVos was born January 3, 1915 in East Moline, the daughter of Alois and Anna (DeDoncker) DeVos. She married Julius VanTieghem on April 17, 1935 in East Moline. He passed away on September 5, 1993. Martha was a homemaker and an excellent cook. She loved caring for her family and her home. She loved to play euchre with her family and friends, and usually won. She also enjoyed working crossword and cryptogram puzzles. She was a member of the Ladies Club at Our Lady of Guadalupe. Survivors include her son Denny (Nancy) VanTieghem, Silvis, daughter-in-law, Marilyn VanTieghem, Moline, granddaughters, Shari (Jim) Armstrong, Omaha, NE, Lisa Clark, Moline, Sheli (Matt) Williams, East Moline, Amy (Randy) Johnson, North Liberty, IA and Stefanie (Mike) Armstrong, Omaha, NE, great granddaughters, Alexa, Jayme, Kayla and Matison, great grandsons, Dillon, Hayden, Brandon, Noah, Isaac and Jacob, her sister Jeanette Nagle, ElCajon, CA, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Mary, brothers Fred and John, sons David and Duane and daughter Denise. The family would like to thank the staff of Illini sheltered Care and Illini Hospital for their excellent care.
