Obituary

Memorial services for Marty Wayne Baker, 61, of East Moline, IL, will be 11:00 am Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hampton, IL. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Rapid City, IL. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 pm Thursday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 3:00 pm. Mr. Baker died Saturday, September 30, 2017, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA. Marty was born July 9, 1956, in Moline, IL, the son of Merwin and Margaret Larson Baker. He was a graduate of UTHS Class of 1974. He retired from Case/IH Plant, East Moline, in 2004. Music was his passion in life. He was an accomplished guitarist, and self taught on a variety of other musical instruments. Marty helped form the "Hooker Brothers Band" in 1975, and entertained many people in the Quad City area. Family was of the utmost importance to Marty. Marty had numerous nieces and nephews who loved him very much. They voted Marty the 'Best Uncle Ever'! Marty was the ultimate friend and when you were his friend, you were his friend for life! Survivors include his mother, Margaret Baker, East Moline; siblings, Linda Vaughn (Jeff), Machesney Park, IL, Kathleen McIntosh (Jim Turner), Fenton IL, Marcia Allen, Bettendorf, IA, Christine Baker (Don "Speedy" Williams), Silvis, IL, Denise Baker, Silvis, IL, Daniel Baker (Pammy Gomez), Pam and Paula Baker, all of East Moline and Sandra Cordova (Floyd) Thornton, CO; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and his 'concert going buddy', Tim Van Hecke. He was preceded in death by his father, Merwin Baker and brother, Steve Baker. Memorials may be made to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
