Marvin "Mike" Hines, 91, of East Moline, passed away Monday, September 5th at his home. Funeral services will be 10 am Thursday, at the Van Hoe Funeral Home. Ltd., East Moline. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mike was born on January 23rd, 1931 in Moline, to R. Otto and Lydia (Greely) Hines. He graduated from Moline High School in 1949.

Mike married Willadean Huffman on October 21st, 1956. They were married for over 65 years. Mike served in the Army as a sergeant from 1951 to 1954 during the Korean War. He retired from John Deere in 1987 after 22 years working as a senior technician at the Moline Technical Center. He made significant contributions to the instrumentation and electronics field. He previously worked at Eagle Signal from 1959-1963 as a design engineer.

Mike was a member of Believers Baptist Church in Coal Valley. He previously was a member at Moline Gospel Temple where he designed and maintained the once-treasured fountain.

Mike started "Mike's Kites", creating custom stunt kites and flying them throughout the community. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and visited all 50 states. He had a talent for fixing things, and especially enjoyed restoring his 1965 Mustang.

Mike will be missed by his surviving family: his wife, daughter, Dana (Dan) Anderson , son, Paul (Mary) Hines; grandchildren, Kelly Sikkema, Steven Hines, Colleen Weber, Taylor VanTryon, Jacob Anderson, Sarah Anderson and Jason Anderson, and great-grandchildren, Owen, Nora, Leah, and Jayson.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; son, Darren Hines; grandson, Adam Hines; sisters, Dorothy Root, Fay Hemphill and an unnamed twin sister; and his brothers Calvin "Ellis" Hines, Wade Hines, Irvin "Bill" Hines, and Ivan "Bob" Hines.
