Funeral services for Marvin "Marv" Johnston, 69, East Moline, IL, will be 7:00 pm Wednesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL. Visitation will be from 4:00 until service time at the funeral home. Graveside services will be 10:00 am Thursday at Moline Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Johnston died Saturday, April 2, 2016, at UnityPoint, Rock Island. Marv was born December 18, 1946, in Moline, IL, the son of George and Mary Helen Stone Johnston. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Conflict. Marv married Pearl (Mabie) Ackerland March 14, 1970, in Milan. He retired from John Deere Harvester, East Moline, after 35 years of service. He had also owned and operated Marv's Lock Service for 38 years. Marv was honest, caring, kind, and generous to everyone, a true friend. A conversation with Marv about safes or locks could last a long long time. Survivors include his wife, Pearl Johnston, East Moline; son, Matthew (Amanda) Johnston, Carbon Cliff, IL; step daughter, Suzanne R. Niner, Moline; step sons, Greg A. (Barbara) Ackerland, East Moline, Scott A. (Jamie) Ackerland, Preemption, IL, Brett M. Ackerland, East Moline; 17 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; mother, Mary Helen Johnston, Hampton; sisters, Shirley (Richard) Bideaux, Hampton, Carol Wiemer, East Moline, Peggy J. Babcock, Moline, and Nancy Bobb, Hampton; really good friends, Robin Ackerland, Gary Sullivan, and Franz Kauer.
