Funeral services for Mary Beth Swanson, 73, Silvis, are 9:30 AM Monday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis. Burial is in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation is 2-5PM Sunday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd. East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 1:30PM. Mrs. Swanson died Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at her home. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Mary Beth Vermeulen was born November 29, 1934, the daughter of Fred and Alice (VandeGenachte) Vermeulen. She married Richard Swanson, February 5, 1955 at St. Mary's Church, East Moline. Dick died August 28, 1999. Mary Beth had worked as a legal secretary at McGehee, Boling and Whitmeyer, Silvis and later as a receptionist for Dr. Jack Vukov. She was very active in her church and was an integral part of Guadalupe's Perpetual Adoration. She loved sports especially the fighting Illini, the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs. She was a member of the Penny Ante Poker Club for nearly 50 years. Survivors include a daughter Lori A Pauly, Las Vegas, NV, and sons Jeffrey R. Swanson, Lincoln, NE and David A Swanson, LaGrange Park, IL, grandchildren; Jay, Jon and Jenna, and brothers and sisters-in-law Fred and Rita Vermeulen, Lincoln, NE, John and June Vermeulen, Silvis and Michael and Cynthia Vermeulen, Venice, FL, a sister-in-law Delores Vermeulen, Garden Grove, CA and her granddog Gabby. In addition to her husband she is preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert and brother and sister-in-law Don and MaryJo Vermeulen.
