Mary Joann Brasel, 89, of East Moline, died November 30, 2021, at Bickford Cottage in Moline. A private funeral service was held on December 3rd at VanHoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline with graveside services at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Black Hawk College Scholarship fund.

Joann was born October 8, 1932 in Scott County, IL, the daughter of John Delbert Erixon and Hazel Fern Armitage Erixon. She married Dr. John Erickson Brasel in Jacksonville, IL on March 21, 1954. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family and close friends in March of 2004. Her husband proceeded her in death in 2017. Joann's first job was working as a dental assistant but she felt her true career was being a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. Joann was a member of the Illini Hospital Auxiliary and LeVieux Grenier Quester Chapter #837. She enjoyed fishing, collecting jewelry, sewing, researching genealogy, and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her sons, Eric Alan (Tammy) Brasel, Port Byron, IL, Christopher John (Bea) Brasel, East Moline; her 5 grandchildren, Tanner (Brittany), Daniel, Celia, Grace, and Austin; and 1 great-grandchild, Mason.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Roland Erixon.
