Obituary

Mary L. Brown , 90, Colona, IL passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at Allure of Geneseo surrounded by loved ones. There will be a visitation from 12-1:00 PM with a funeral service following at 1:00 PM on Friday, October 11, 2024 at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Mary was born on November 18, 1933 to William Curtis and Mary Joyce (Mizer) McGuire in Decaturville, MO. On January 27, 1951 she was united in marriage to Dean L. Brown in Davenport, IA and the couple made their home in Colona where they raised their two children. Mary worked as a machine operator at Fresh Pack for many years until her retirement.

Mary liked to stay busy. She had a knack for needlework whether it was crocheting, sewing, or quilting but she also enjoyed ceramics. Mary liked shopping for clothes and traveling, especially to Branson, MO and Florida. Spending time with family and friends was her favorite thing to do. She enjoyed playing games and cards, sometimes staying up all night even in her older years. Mary was a member of the River City Church and loved her church family. She was also active with the New Beginnings Widows Club.

Mary will be greatly missed by her daughter, Deana (Rich) Miller; son-in-law, Donald Deschinckel; grandchildren, Chris (Jami) Gordon, and Kim Proehl; step grandchildren, Rich (Stephanie) Miller III, Rebecca (Brad) Gruehl, and Lara (Marvin) Cooper; great-grandchildren, MacKenzie, McKayla, and Lexi; step great-grandchildren, Grace, Sarah, Alex, Ian, Anniken, Isabella, Abigail, and Lottie; siblings, Crystal Fisher and Lois Knapp; sister-in-law, Pat Heatherly; aunts, Helen Holderfield, Junie Knuth, and Dottie Dickinson; and special Florida family, Edy and Mike; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dean; son, Charles "Chuck" Brown; siblings, Betty Morrison and Paul McGuire.
