Mary "Joan" DeTaeye, 85, East Moline, passed away on Friday, July 27, 2012 at her home, with her daughter and son-in-law by her side. Funeral services are 10AM Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is 4-7PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Mary Joan Sprout was born October 1, 1926 in Monmouth, IL, the daughter of John Edward "Jack" and Mildred McChesney (Nash) Sprout. She graduated from UTHS, class of 1944. She married William "Bill" DeTaeye on July 22, 1961 in Hampton, IL. Bill preceded her in death on January 31, 2003. Joan had worked for 18 years at Stombeck-Becker Manufacturing Company, and retired after 24 ½ years as an Administrative Secretary from Deere &Co. Mrs. DeTaeye enjoyed antiquing, reading and playing bridge. She belonged to several bridge marathons. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Tracey and Mike Minteer, East Moline, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Theresa and Leslie Schotka, East Moline and her nieces and nephews. In addition to her her husband, she is preceded in death by her sister Elizabeth "Betty" Guyer.
