Obituary

Mary Jean Malone , of Moline, passed away Saturday, April 5th, 2025 at her home. Mary Jean was born April 17th, 1928, to William A. and Lucille (Cullen) Haddigan in Peoria, IL. She married Edward Malone at St Bernard Church, Peoria, IL on November 28th, 1959. Ed preceded her in death.

Mary Jean graduated from the Academy of Our Lady (Peoria Notre Dame High School) Peoria, IL and Mount Saint Scholastica College, "The Mount" (Benedictine College), Atchison, Kansas.  She earned a BA in Economics from the Mount and was the class valedictorian and a member of the Kappa Gamma Pi – National Catholic College Graduate Honor Society.

After graduation Mary Jean worked at Caterpillar Inc., Peoria, IL, in the purchasing unit and as an economic research assistant.  Later Mary Jean worked at John Deere – Outside Manufacturing Products (OMP) business unit and John Deere Intercontinental Ltd. (JDIL) in Moline, IL.  She retired as an executive secretary from JDIL in June 1992.

Mary Jean enjoyed playing bridge in many groups and the long-term friendships originating from the bridge groups. She was reintroduced to the card game, Rummy, later in life by her special niece Jean LaKemper. Additionally, she supported and volunteered in various activities over the years at St Anne Parish, East Moline, IL where she was a member for over 60 years.

The family would like to thank Bickford Assisted Living-Moline for the wonderful care provided throughout her years at Bickford.

Survivors include her son, Mark E Malone, Milan, IL, her sister Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Oberle, East Peoria, IL, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband Ed, Mary Jean was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Haddigan, and her sister, Ruth LaKemper.

A Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 12th, at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Entombment will be at the mausoleum at St. Mary Cemetery, East Moline. A rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. Friday, April 11th, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, with visitation following from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Memorials can be made to St. Anne Parish.
