Obituary

Mary "Jean" Huber, 94, of East Moline, IL, died Thursday, August 14, 2014, at Rosewood Care Center, Moline, IL. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00PM Tuesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., where a rosary will be recited at 3:30PM. Private funeral services will be held at the funeral home. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline. Jean was born May 7, 1920, in East Moline, the third daughter of William and Florence Hughes Courtney. Jean was a life long resident of East Moline and member of St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Jean was a graduate of Western Illinois Teachers College, now Western Illinois University. She began teaching at Lincoln School, East Moline, and ended up as the home economics supervisor at all four East Moline Elementary Schools. She married Daniel Huber Sr. June 26, 1943, in East Moline. He died September 30, 1987. She was an accomplished artist who was instrumental in the local art community. She had also been an accomplished and published writer. Her articles could be read in several of our regional newspapers. Survivors include her sons, Dan Huber Jr., East Moline, and Tim (Pam) Huber, Batavia, IL; sister, Shirley Courtney, Batavia. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Kathleen Huber; granddaughter; Mindy Huber; and sisters, Helen Johnson, and Elizabeth Carson.
