Obituary

Mary Catherine Huyten, referred to as "bright eyes" by her forever husband, Bill, was the youngest of four kids and born on February 24, 1964 in Muscatine, IA, to parents Mary-Helen Kelly Woods and Gary Sheldon Woods. Mary was 57 when she found her forever home on December 29th, 2021 and had lots of family beside her for comfort as she peacefully took her final breath at Genesis Hospital in Silvis, IL. Survivors include her son, Cory Woods, her husband Bill, and step-son, Austin Huyten; niece Leslie Pressier, Mindy Woods, Kelly Woods, Greg Woods, Liberty Powell, her father in law Frank Huyten; her two dogs, Bruno and Ralphy, her two cats Gypsy and Hazel, and a huge tribe of close friends.

For the past 24 years, Mary lived in Colona, IL, with her husband Bill on a beautiful acreage where she loves to garden, rehab and adopt animals and host parties with friends and family where her bubbly personality would permeate the room with love.

Mary Catherine met the love of her life Bill Huyten in the Fall of 96' and they were married on August 7, 2000 in Sturgis, SD. She had many ventures and jobs that ultimately led her to completing her education at Dermal Institute of Chicago and became a well known esthetician and nail tech in the Quad Cities area. She took pride in her craft and some of her favorite moments were her weekly trips to Crosstown Square to provide her services to some elder clients. After learning the tricks of the trade working in other establishments, she took the plunge and opened Blue Crush Spa in 2014. As she got lost in the operations of the business, she decided to shut that location down, relocate to a smaller Studio B where she found a new energy for beauty work and was able to focus on her clientele alone.

Behind Mary's big smile was an adventurous and courageous woman with many hobbies and activities that are not for the faint hearted. She was an avid motorcyclist, snowmobiler, snow skier, camper, water skier, and adventurer, but passed on skydiving. She was a member of the Iron Butt Club riding one thousand miles a day, and lifetime hog member. Every year her and husband Bill would ride their Harleys to Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and also tour Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, and all over the Southwest.

One time Mary and Bill took a ride with two friends from South Texas named Vince and Dennis, however Dennis hadn't met Mary yet and asked Bill before they all met up, "let me get this right, your wife is going to ride her own motorcycle to Texas, then we're going to tour South Texas, and then she's going to ride her bike home? This I gotta see!"

Dennis led the ride, Mary followed behind him while Vince and Bill tailed. After four days of trekking through South Texas, one morning, Dennis gets up and says "I have a problem with your wife. No matter how hard I ride, I never stop hearing her f-ing pipes behind me. So with your permission, I want to give her a new name...BBE (Biker Bitch Extraordinaire)."

Funds for her Celebration of Life are established, but if you would like to donate her family has created a campaign to give any proceeds to the ASPCA or any animal foundation of your choosing.

There is no set date for her celebration of life at this moment as COVID creates an unsafe environment for gatherings especially during the winter months, but there will be a party to celebrate Mary Catherine in 2022 during her favorite time of the year, Spring.

If you knew Mary, then you were probably a recipient of her Fountain Of Love.
