Obituary

Mary Lulich Johnson, 91, of East Moline, passed away on March 5th 2010 at Illini Skilled Nursing Home, Silvis. Visitation will be held on Monday March 8th from 3-7:30PM at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. A funeral mass celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday at 1PM at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial is in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Monsignor William J. Cleary Endowment fund at St. Anne Parish, the Croatian Crest Club or to Illini Hospital Auxiliary. Mary was born January 10, 1919 in Silvis, IL, the daughter of Austrian-Hungarian immigrants, Thomas and Helen Lulich. She was the fifth eldest daughter with 11 brothers and sisters. Mary graduated from East Moline High School and Moline Institute of Commerce. She was the manager of Neumolds Hosiery Shop in downtown Moline in her younger years. She married Robert J. Johnson on April 3, 1948. She was a devoted wife to Robert for 61 years, and mother to three children and five grandchildren who knew her best as "Baba." She loved spending time with her family, sewing, gardening, speaking and teaching the Croatian language to children, and listening to Croatian music in honor of her family heritage. Mary's favorite pastime was dancing with her husband Bob. She was a charter member of the Croatian Crest Club and was very proud of her Croatian heritage. Mary was a lifetime member of the Illini Hospital Auxiliary and had been active in Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and was a UTHS Booster. We say goodbye and we love you, forever, Baba. Survivors include her husband Robert J. Johnson, East Moline, daughters and sons-in-law Jolene and Duane Clarkson of Orion; Marianne and Daniel Adams, Moline, son and daughter-in-law Edwin and Linda Johnson, Aliso Viejo, CA, grandchildren; Robert, Danielle, Anna, David and Thomas, sisters Helen (Wayne) Stohl, Cleveland, Eva Theuninck, East Moline and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Illini Restorative Care for all of her care and for being her second family for the past five years.
