Funeral services for Mary C. Virnig, 82, of East Moline, IL, will be 10:00 AM Friday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd. East Moline, IL. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery Rock Island, IL. Visitation will be Thursday 4-7 PM with a rosary at 6:30PM at the funeral home. Mrs. Virnig died Monday, February 02, 2009 at St. Anthony's Continuing care Center, Rock Island, IL. A memorial fund has been established. Mary was born October 31, 1926 in Melrose, IA the daughter of Frank and Catherine (Curran) Ward. She married Louis J. Virnig April 24, 1948 in East Moline, IL. He died September 11, 2000. She had worked Illinois Bell Telephone Co. for ten years and as a waitress at the East Moline American Legion for 15 years. Mary enjoyed gardening, going to yard sales, cooking for family and being with her grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Dan Rotz of Silvis, IL; sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Amy Virnig of East Moline, IL, James and Rebecca Virnig of East Moline, IL; grandsons, Tom Rotz and Jacob Virnig, sisters and brother-in-law Caroline Peters of Decatur, IL, Helen Bertram of East Moline, Judy and Wayne Settles of Silvis, IL; brothers and sister-in-law William Ward of East Moline, Leo Ward of Des Moines, IA, and John and Beverly Ward of Davenport, IA.
