Funeral services for Matilda M. "Tillie" Ferkel, 99, Rock Island, are 10:30 AM Friday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial is in St. Mary's Cemetery. Tillie died Sunday, January 6, 2007 at her home. Memorials may be made to the church or to Our Lady of Grace Catholic Academy, East Moline. Visitation is 4-7PM Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a liturgy service will be read at 6:30PM. Matilda was born on August 18, 1908 in Jasper, Minnesota, the daughter of Peter and Mary (VanLeare) Marlier. She married Emerson Hart on August 14, 1926. He died in 1957. She married Ray Henzen in 1959. He died in 1974. She married Russell Ferkel in 1979. He died in 2001. She was a member of St. Pius X, the Moline VFW Ladies Auxiliary, enjoyed dancing in her earlier years and liked shopping and playing cards. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Betty and Roy Schultz, Silvis, stepdaughter and stepson-in-law Susan and Mike Harkert, Rock Island, four grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 7 step great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husbands, Matilda is preceded in death by sons Earl and Robert Hart, grandson Dennis Schultz, infant granddaughter Linda Schultz, 3 brothers and 4 sisters.
