Matthew Zarlatanes, 79, formerly of East Moline, passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Heartland Health Care, Moline. Funeral services are 11 AM Saturday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 1 hour prior to services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, where he was a member. Matt was born April 11, 1932 in East Moline, the son of Peter and Mary (Fotinakes) Zarlatanes. He graduated from United Township High School. After high school he was stationed in Korea with the US Army. He married Ardith Miley on September 20, 1958 in Biggsville, IL. Ardith preceded him in death on November 3, 2001. Matthew worked as a draftsman for 28 years with Roth Tank Co., Rock Island and ultimately retired from the Rock Island Arsenal in 1996. Matthew was a devoted husband, father and friend. He enjoyed golfing and playing cards. Survivors include his children (spouse), James (Julie) Zarlatanes, Taylor Ridge, IL and Gina McCarthy, Dubuque, IA, grandchildren, Matthew McCarthy, Anthony McCarthy, Nikolas Zarlatanes and Alex Zarlatanes, great grandson, Maddux McCarthy and sisters Evelyn (Stuvie) Wallen, East Moline and Bessie (Robert) Lemen, East Moline. In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents and brother James and Nicholas.
